Your Life Before & After TMJ Treatment

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) may become inflamed, under stress, or misaligned, leading to an excruciatingly painful jaw problem. Serious pain that has a major negative influence on their quality of life is experienced by those who have TMJ problems. TMJ, or TMD as it is officially known, can be extremely crippling if you’ve ever had it or have it now

TMJ stigma can manifest both inside and externally. Externally, others around the TMJ patient may believe that it’s not that awful and that the sufferer is exaggerating, and internally, sufferers may have previously held ideas that they don’t need TMJ treatment to get better. The truth is that TMJ can affect basic aspects of the human experience like laughing, speaking, eating, and intimacy.

Numerous TMJ patients claim that they feel their loved ones and family don’t believe them and that doctors have believed that their pain is exaggerated or imagined. Patients have encountered animosity from their coworkers and a lack of sympathy from relatives and family.

TMJ disorder is challenging to say the least. If you’ve had TMJ disorder for a while and haven’t received treatment, you’ll recognize these symptoms because you deal with them every day. If you’ve only recently developed the illness, you might be experiencing some symptoms, but they’re nothing to joke about. Before they get worse, identify your TMJ Symptoms and explore your treatment options for TMJ.

Facial and Jaw Pain

Jaw and Facial Pain are typical TMJ symptoms that are fairly noticeable. The muscles and joints in your jaw are inflamed as a result of misalignment and/or teeth grinding and clenching, which causes jaw pain. Although your jaw is strong, it is not strong enough to be used constantly, and it can become strained much like other muscles and joints.

But why are you experiencing discomfort in other facial regions besides simply your jaw? Referred pain is what it is, and it can also cause headaches. In the tissues close to the damaged site, you experience discomfort.

Your capacity for speaking, eating, yawning, and laughing is substantially impacted by jaw and facial pain.

Pain, Ringing, and Congestion in the Ears

Because they don’t seem to be related to your jaw, ear issues might be difficult to identify. The inner ear bones were once a component of the jaw, but today’s jaw joints are located just below the ears. Your inner ear may be pulled on and hurt by the swelling in your jaw joint. The same goes for your eardrum, which can be pulled out of place by an inflamed jaw joint, leading to ringing in the ears. Ear ringing is a marker of hearing loss, contrary to the urban legend that goes, “Your ears ring when someone is talking about you.” Although hearing loss is a natural aspect of aging, TMJ worsens hearing loss.

Headaches and Migraines

Are you prone to migraines or recurrent headaches? As symptoms of numerous conditions, headaches and migraines can be difficult to identify. Migraines can even be a separate sickness. Headaches and migraines associated with TMJ condition are referred to as “secondary” headaches and migraines since they are signs of a more serious problem.

Tension headaches or headaches from the TMJ can also be referred to. Both scenarios result in pain from swollen blood vessels in your brain.

Different circumstances apply to migraines. They are a neurological phenomenon that both researchers and medical professionals find puzzling. Two primary ideas are explaining how TMJ might lead to migraines. The trigeminal nerve, which is thought to be the cause of migraines, first travels via your jaw joint. A migraine is brought on by a swollen and inflamed joint pressing against a nerve. Second, the same nerve is in charge of feeling in your head and face as well as stimulating your jaw. A migraine may develop if the trigeminal nerve becomes clogged and overloaded with all the signals going to your brain.

Dizziness or Vertigo

Vertigo or a dizzy feeling can greatly limit your capacity to do any action. When you’re feeling lightheaded, you won’t want to engage in your favorite pastimes or even attempt something new.

You can balance better thanks to the tubes that run from your middle ear to your nose’s back. You feel lightheaded and may have vertigo when you are blocked from the TMJ.

Anxiety and Depression

Long-term, untreated TMJ problem causes depression and anxiety. The effects of TMJ dysfunction are so severe that you are no longer able to enjoy the activities you formerly did, feel well enough to go to social gatherings, and miss work when you get frequent headaches and migraines. Depression may emerge from your incapacity to engage in human interaction, and you may also have anxiety over the things you’re missing and the suffering you’re going through.

Friends and family who don’t suffer from TMJ don’t the illness’s severity and complexity, which only worsens the discomfort and complexity of the illness, which only makes the discomfort worse. Additionally, a lot of people report being sent back and forth between doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and doctors again and will remain suffering from untreated TMJ disorder without ever finding relief from their discomfort.
